1. A Dance to Remember
The waltz is a ballroom dance performed by a couple to music with a 3/4 beat. It's traditionally done in a box step, which makes the waltz a stately and beautiful dance to watch and perform. The bodies of both dancers remain upright and stiff and the shoulders and back move very little. The legs, on the other hand, execute the fluid movements of the dance. There are a variety of turns and steps dance partners can perform to add their own unique flair to the dance. It takes time and practice for partners to perform waltz steps well together. Most couples take dance lessons to perfect their technique.
2. Join the Club
Explore the ballroom dancing opportunities in your community. Several dance clubs offer dance lessons, in addition to evenings and events specifically for those who dance the waltz. There are also many ballroom dancing clubs around the country that hold events on a regular basis, giving you the opportunity to practice your dance steps and enjoy the company of those who like waltzing as much as you and your partner. Contact your local dance studios and ask about such dance clubs and how you can get involved. These clubs are also a good way to meet potential dance partners if you're not a part of a dance duo currently.
3. Waltz at Your Wedding
You may think you have two left feet, but there are instructors who are very talented at taking novice dancers and teaching them the skills they need to dance at a wedding. Whether you're the bride and groom, or you just want to brush up on the dance steps, a couple of weeks worth of lessons should get you comfortable on the dance floor. Most lessons are about an hour long, 2 or 3 times a week. The first week, you'll focus on the proper stance and basic waltz steps. The second week will include turning as a couple and improving on the basics. Instructors often devote the third week to individual turns.
4. 1-2-3 to Better Health
Dancing the waltz exercises your legs and core muscles, and helps you learn grace and poise as you move to the music. Waltzing can also strengthen your relationship with your partner. Dancing with someone you can love gives the two of you a common hobby to learn together; and because the waltz is so romantic, it can help reignite the spark between between you and your partner. Ballroom dancing also helps you sleep better and develop healthier immune system. The endorphins your body releases while you dance will make you feel happy and content. So grab someone you love and waltz your way to a healthier, happier life.
