Enlarged and opened pores can cause your skin to appear more oily and your pores to become clogged and easily infected. By reducing the size of your pores, you can apply a few natural treatments that flush out the pores, remove dead skin that can re-clog the pores and increase skin cell turnover to keep your pores tight and clear.
Flushing Your Pores
Flushing your pores regularly keeps your skin clearer and helps tighten your skin by eliminating impurities and sebum that stretch the pores open. One way to effectively flush out your pores is to apply an oil facial using a non-comedogenic oil, such as castor oil. To apply a castor oil facial, massage 1 tsp. of castor oil onto your skin with the fingers. Use a moderate pressure, but avoid scrubbing or rubbing the oil in too aggressively. After two to three minutes, place a steaming washcloth over your face, allowing the steam to open your pores and release the blockages. Once the cloth cools, use it to wipe off the oil and impurities.
Removing Dead Skin
Removing dead skin regularly keep your pores from becoming clogged. Use a natural substance that will remove dead skin without scratching or damaging your face. Baking soda and raw oats make an effective and gentle exfoliate and can be used twice per week to keep your pores free of dead skin. To apply a facial scrub, combine 1 tbsp. of baking soda, raw oats and water together and massage the mixture onto your skin for two minutes. Rinse the mixture off with warm water.
Increasing Skin Cell Turnover
When the skin cells are sloughed off more quickly, and new skin cells are developing at a faster rate, it helps keep your pores tighter and free of impurities. One method of increasing skin cell turnover is to apply a substance to your skin that is high in vitamin C, such as lemon juice. Lemon juice can be sprayed onto your skin or applied with cotton pads and allowed to air dry twice per day.
Icing Your Pores
Temperature has a significant effect on the pores. For example, applying ice to your skin can cause your pores to tighten and shrink. Ice can be rubbed onto your skin after cleansing once per day for two to three minutes to shrink the pores, which can help keep impurities and bacteria from entering your skin.
Applying Weekly Masks
Applying a weekly mud mask draws out excess oils and bacteria from your pores that could turn into acne breakouts. Use only a mask that is created from completely natural ingredients, such as French green clay. The clay can be smoothed onto your skin, then rinsed off after the mask dries.
