Side Effects of Protonix 40Mg

Protonix (pantoprazole sodium) is a medication used to treat acid reflux disease, also known as GERD. This drug is highly efficient at managing reflux with minimal side effects. The most commonly reported side effects among users are headache, diarrhea and nausea.

Headache

Headache is the most commonly reported side effect while using Protonix. This may subside after your body has a chance to get used to the medication. You may use Tylenol or Motrin to alleviate your discomfort. If your headaches worsen, you should contact your doctor for follow-up care.

Diarrhea

You may experience diarrhea while using Protonix. This side effect should also subside with time. You should make sure that you remain adequately hydrated. Drink at least eight to 10 glasses of water per day. You may want to avoid spicy or acidic foods at this time. If your diarrhea does not subside or worsens, you may need to switch to a different medication. Contact your physician to discuss your options.

Nausea

Nausea is a common side effect while taking Protonix. Eating small meals more frequently may help alleviate nausea. An empty stomach may trigger nausea, so always have a small snack available. Try avoiding spicy foods. Ginger or peppermint herbal teas may also help with nausea.
