1. Bacteria Isn't Always Bad
Lactobacillus acidophilus is a "friendly" bacteria which helps to increase the amount of good bacteria in the intestines, which in turn helps to reduce the risk of fungal infections. Resistance to fungal infections is often reduced when drugs such as antibiotics and birth control disrupt the normal level of good bacteria. To restore balance and naturally treat fungal infections, eat yogurt which contains acidophilus, or take a probiotic supplement. Additionally, supplementing your diet with B-complex vitamins and zinc increases your body's resistance to fungal infections. Always follow your doctor's instructions or the manufacturer's directions for dosage information.
2. Fighting Fungus With Food
There are many foods that fight fungal infections, such as citrus fruits and garlic. Three garlic capsules can be taken 3 times each day, or try to include at least 6 cloves of fresh garlic in meals to treat fungal infections naturally. Additionally, foods high in vitamin A, C and E, such as citrus fruits, yellow, orange and red fruits and vegetables and green leafy vegetables help to boost the immune system and fight fungus. You can also take vitamins in supplement form as natural remedies for fungal infections, taking 1,000 mg of vitamin C, 400 IU of vitamin E and 10,000 IU of vitamin A daily.
3. Treat it Topically
Citrus foods are great for internal treatment; however, citrus seed extract, available in spray from, is a great natural topical treatment for fungal infections and can be used 2 to 3 times daily on the affected area. Aloe vera, which can be used as frequently as needed, also has anti-parasitic properties and helps to soothe irritated skin. Finally, tea tree oil is naturally fungicidal and also kills bacteria, but the affected area must be dry before applying the oil. Add 5 drops of oil of tea tree to clean water and soak a clean cloth in the water, applying it to the affected area 2 or 3 times daily. Additionally, you can add 5 to 10 drops of the oil to liquid soaps and shampoos to cleanse the body and clear fungal infections.
4. Points on Precaution
Fungal infection are contagious, so make sure that you keep good hygiene practices and avoid sharing clothing, hair brushes and other items. Always wear flip-flops when using public showers or pools and keep your clothes clean and dry. Remember as well that fungal infections are easily passed from animals to humans, so take care around unknown animals, particularly if you notice hair loss or abnormal skin conditions.
