An ingrown hair refers to a hair that has grown out a bit and then curls back into the skin. It can penetrate layers of the skin causing redness, tenderness, welling and sometimes pain, according to the Mayo Clinic. Shaving or friction are often to blame for the ingrowth. Vaginal ingrown hairs, or pubic hairs, occur in much the same way as other locations of ingrown hair. Treating a vaginal ingrown hair can be done at home with the use of a few simple tools found around the house.
Step 1
Wet a wash cloth with warm to hot water. Apply it to the ingrown hair area until the cloth cools. The warmth and moisture can help soften the skin covering the hair.
Step 2
Re-wet the cloth with warm water and gently rub the ingrown hair area to remove any dead or loose skin cells.
Step 3
Sanitize pointed tweezers with hydrogen peroxide by wiping the tweezers with a cotton ball saturated with the peroxide. Use the tweezers to grasp any part of the hair that you can see. You may be able to unbend the hair to allow the end to poke through. Grasp the hair and pull it in the direction in which it is growing.
Step 4
Use a cotton ball or swab to dab the skin to prevent infection. Apply a thin layer of aloe vera or topical antiseptic to aid in healing.
Step 5
Wait a day to repeat these methods if the hair was not able to be removed with the tweezers. As the hair grows it may be easier to remove. Avoid shaving or hair removal techniques in the area until the ingrown hair has been removed.
