It is illegal in most places to fish without a fishing license. Then you will need to dress appropriate and have all of the right gear. Once you have these basic things, you are ready to go fishing.

2. Ice Fishing Clothing

When you are going ice fishing, you will have to consider the weather. Ice fishing is done in the winter time, so you will need to dress in a lot of layers. You need to wear as many layers of clothing as possible to keep you warm. You can always take things off if you get to warm while ice fishing. Some of the basic clothing items that you will not want to forget are gloves, a hat, a heavy coat, heavy socks, boots and something to cover your face and ears. A nice pair of long johns are excellent to wear under your layers of clothes. You will also want to have things to help keep you dry. It does rain and snow in the wintertime, so you do have a chance of getting wet.

There is some special equipment that you will need when you go ice fishing. For example, you may want to bring a sled to help carry your equipment. It is always easier to slide a sled behind you than try to carry a bunch of equipment in the snow. You will definitely need an ice auger. This is a small drill that you will use to drill the hole in the ice in order to ice fish. A skimmer can be used to scoop out excess slush from your fishing hole. You will also want to bring along your regular fishing equipment such as the rods, the bait, the bait bucket, a bucket to hold the fish you catch, a seat and a fishing net. Once you have these basic items, you are ready for a fun-filled day of ice fishing.
