Goji juice is promoted as a remedy for a wide variety of health conditions including high blood pressure, gastrointestinal issues and even cancer. According to the Mayo Clinic, while goji juice contains plenty of vitamins and antioxidants, there are no human studies to backup claims that it is effective in the prevention or treatment of any medical ailment. Goji juice has been used for medicinal purposes since ancient times in China, India and Tibet. It has more recently become popular in the U.S.
Anti-Aging
Goji juice is advertised as having the ability to slow down and even help reverse the aging process. It is also touted as a remedy for improving energy and retarding the growth of cataracts (clouding of the usually clear lens of your eye) that can develop as people get older.
The anti-aging properties said to be found in the goji berry are credited to polysaccharide (starch, cellulose) which is said to ignite and increase the production of growth hormones. These growth hormones should in return, refresh the cells in the body, causing it to remain youthful.
Weight Loss
Goji juice has long been marketed as an effective weight loss agent. It presumably works by reducing appetite and accelerating the fat burning process. Its apparent ability to boost energy is supposed to make it easier to stay committed to regular physical exercise.
Immune System
There are assertions that goji juice will enhance the immune system because the amino acids it contains cause a rise in the production of white blood cells. White blood cells play a vital role in the body's defense against infection and foreign substances.
Miscellaneous Benefits
Goji juice has been used to help treat insomnia, enhance sexual desire in women as well as improve eyesight, and circulation. It has also been considered as a treatment for anxiety and depression. Some people claim when consumed on a regular basis, goji juice has a calming effect and provides an overall sense of happiness.
