How to Increase Metabolism Fast

Metabolism refers to a grouping of chemical processes that control the digestion of food. If you want to increase your metabolism fast, you will need to make dietary changes right away. When you have a faster metabolic rate, you will burn more calories and in turn lose weight. For additional advice on how to lose weight, you should consult your doctor.

Step 1

Eat carbohydrates that have a low rating on the glycemic index. Make sure you include whole-grain breads, fortified cereals, strawberries, apples, bananas, legumes, tomatoes, broccoli, asparagus and cabbage.

Step 2

Take the time to exercise. Starting to exercise every day will help increase your metabolism quickly. Mix up aerobic exercise and weight training to reap the most benefits. 1/2 hour of each four to five times a week is ideal. You can try circuit training as well as participating in activities like running, cycling and swimming.

Step 3

Eliminate items that slow the metabolism. Alcohol and foods high in saturated fat can slow your metabolism down.

Step 4

Consume small meals over the course of the day. Although it sounds counterintuitive, eating can actually quickly speed up the metabolism. Aim to eat a small meal every three hours. Eating at regular intervals can positively affect the metabolism.

Step 5

Drink a lot of water. Instead of drinking soda or juice, drink at least 64 oz. of water per day if you are trying to speed up how quickly your body burns calories.
