How to Lose Fat, Increase Metabolism & Boost Energy

Losing fat and boosting your energy at the same time involves a number of steps. Some of these steps are quite simple in themselves but often offer challenges to those attempting weight loss, muscle building or healthier lifestyles. However, losing fat, increasing metabolism and boosting your energy can all three be achieved at the same time with a little bit of effort, a lot of temptation resisting and a healthy approach to eating.

Step 1

Exercise at least 30 minutes a day. Exercise releases endorphins in the brain, those "feel good" sensations that flood the body with energy, well-being and happiness after a good workout. Exercise doesn't have to be grueling or boring if you switch it up and keep it fresh, doing something new every day.

Step 2

Eat five or six smaller meals a day rather than three large meals. Your body requires constant energy for digestion, which helps increase metabolism. Avoid that sleepy, lethargic mode after dining by avoiding high-fat and high-sugar foods. The British Heart Foundation, according to ScienceDaily, found that high-fat diets not only cause obesity, diabetes and heart failure, but they also slow physical performance and cognitive speed. This is why we often feel the need to nap after a huge meal.

Step 3

Take vitamin and mineral supplements every day. Jacob Teitelbaum, M.D., reported in "Psychology Today" that when the body is deficient in vitamins and minerals, the metabolism slows and individuals crave food. Taking vitamin and mineral supplements actually helps you lose weight while at the same time increasing metabolism, which in turn leads to more energy.
