Stress
Reducing stress in your life can have a positive effect on more than your appetite. Stress and worry often decrease appetite, which can lead to weight loss in many individuals. While some of us turn to food for comfort when we're worried or anxious about something, others find they have no appetite, which eventually leads to malnutrition and lack of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that help the body function.
Body Function
Excessive worrying or anxiety can slow the digestive processes down and may even lead to difficulty swallowing and nausea. Worry increases the level of hormones released by the body to deal with the stress, which takes focus and attention away from digestion, often leaving individuals with upset stomach, excess acids in the stomach and other physical manifestations including diarrhea, all of which can contribute to weight loss.
Eating Disorders
Worrying about gaining weight may lead many individuals to develop bulimia, a condition that involves purging or vomiting after eating because the individual is afraid to gain weight. This robs the body of nutrients and can lead to drastic weight loss as the body gradually starves.
