Laser Eye Surgery Recovery

Laser eye surgery is done to help correct vision. During the surgery, a flap is cut from the eye's top layer. A laser is then used to correct the eye's surface. The flap is then replaced to protect the eye as it heals.

Time Frame

Fully recovering from laser eye surgery can take up to three months. Most people can return to limited activities within the first week.

Common Symptoms

Blurred vision, itchy eyes, watery eyes, trouble seeing at night, sensitivity to light and limited distance vision are common after laser eye surgery.

Care

Caring for your eyes after the surgery usually includes applying eye drops and keeping an eye shield on when you sleep. Additionally, you shouldn't use lotions, creams, makeup or other products on the eyes for at least two weeks after the surgery.

Complications

Infection, halos and glares are all possible after a laser eye surgery. While the infections are treatable, halos and glares usually remain.

Follow-Up Visits

You will have a follow up visit with your doctor within the first two days following surgery. Additionally, you will have follow up visits at regular intervals after that to check the eye's healing.
