How to Prevent Bird Flu

With the ongoing epidemic of swine flu (H1N1) and the ever-pervasive outbreaks of bird flu, it is wise to learn what precautions you can take for yourself and your loved ones to keep from falling ill. Just because it is flu season does not mean everyone will get sick. Some people have natural immunity, and others may have had a mild case of bird flu, leaving them with antibodies that protect against a repeated and more severe infection. While your health is still good, be proactive and follow these easy steps to protect yourself.

How to Prevent Bird Flu

Step 1

Wash hands thoroughly and frequently. If you work in an environment where you are in constant contact with many people, keep a jar of hand sanitizer nearby if you can't get to a sink to wash often.

Step 2

Keep your hands off of your face and away from your nose, mouth and eyes. The bird flu is airborne, so it is best to remember to not touch your face unless your hands are freshly washed.

Step 3

Take homeopathic Oscillococcinum. This homeopathic preparation is know to help protect against bird flu and other flu and is available in health food stores and drugstores everywhere. Three studies were done and confirm the efficacy of Oscillococcinum (Ferley 1989, Cassanova 1992 and Papp 1998). Each of the trials involved between 300 and 500 people and all were double-blind. They all showed significant results, with the remedy being able to protect against the flu. Oscillococcinum works best when taken within the first 48 hours after exposure to the bird flu. Take one tiny pillule every six to eight hours for several days until symptoms disappear.

Step 4

Consult a homeopathic practitioner and request a dose or two of homeopathic Influenzinum, a remedy that can be taken by the entire family. On their website, homeopaths Michael Thompson and Marie O'Sullivan note a 10-year French study involving 23 French homeopathic doctors who found Influenzinum to be 90 percent effective in preventing bird and other flu. This remedy can be taken once a month during flu season as a protective treatment against flu.

Step 5

Boost the immune system by taking vitamins. Vitamins C and D3 have shown effectiveness in strengthening the immune system against flu. According to the CureZone.com, taking vitamin D3 in doses of 2,000 IU daily, or one to two tablespoons of cod liver oil twice daily will help prevent the flu. Take zinc tablets, which can be purchased at health food stores, to help with the body's absorption of other vitamins and minerals.

Step 6

Get plenty of restful sleep. Drink a glass of warm milk with two teaspoons of raw honey before bed to help relax you and aid in a good night's sleep. A good night's sleep helps strengthen the immune system.

Step 7

Alkalinize the body very slightly by drinking baking soda mixed with water twice a day--a half-teaspoon of baking soda in an 8 oz. glass of water. Bacteria and viruses cannot survive in an alkaline environment.
