The FreeStyle Glucose Meter, by Abbott, is a convenient tool used to monitor blood sugar levels in diabetics. It offers a convenient and discreet way to manage your diabetes. Coding a FreeStyle Glucose Meter is necessary for ensuring the readings you receive are as accurate as possible. The FDA warns against using test strips that are not made specifically for your glucose meter. Coding a vial of test strips from a different manufacturer will cause inaccurate readings. Follow the coding instructions carefully and repeat them each time you purchase a new container of test strips. Consult the manufacturer if your meter does not display the code that matches the test-strip container code.
First Time Coding
Step 1
Locate the word "CODE" followed by a two-digit number near the top of the test strip container.
Step 2
Insert a test strip from this container into the base of the FreeStyle Glucose Meter. Be sure to insert the top end of the strip, which is marked by a solid horizontal line. The meter will power on automatically after you have properly inserted the test strip.
Step 3
Observe the number displayed on the scree. Use the "C" button to scroll up or the "M" button to scroll down until you find the number that matches the code from the test-strip container.
Step 4
Wait until the screen displays a blood droplet next to a test strip before continuing to use the meter as you normally would.
Subsequent Codings
Step 1
Code your FreeStyle Glucose Meter each time you purchase a new container of test strips.
Step 2
Insert a new test strip into the base of the meter. The unit will power on.
Step 3
Wait for the screen to display a series of screen options. Be prepared to press "C" when you see the word "Code" with a number next to it.
Step 4
Scroll up with "C" or down with "M" until the new code number is located and matches the code on the new test strip vial. Wait for the blood droplet next to a test strip appears before resuming normal use of the meter.
