One of the most useful character traits a person can possess in life is genuine self-confidence. From business to romance, self-confidence leads to others having confidence in you. That confidence they develop, whether it's your employer or your lover, is critical to success. Confidence in you will give them the mental security to trust you. This ability to be trusted leads to more opportunities, allowing you to achieve more, thus setting up a circle of ever-increasing self-confidence. All you have to do is get started along the path!
Step 1
Write down a list of your strengths. Look at past accomplishments and achievements. Determine what characteristics that you possess allowed you to succeed at those tasks when others failed.
Step 2
Write down the list of achievements and the strengths that led to them. Catalog every strength that you can think of in black and white, so you can look over it later, for encouragement.
Step 3
List all of your goals. Make sure the list is comprised of specific, challenging but achievable goals. Set short-term and long-term plans down, so you have targets to aim for. Achieving goals that you have set for yourself will provide a great deal of positive reinforcement for your self-image. Achieve what you set for yourself and you will increase your confidence!
Step 4
Develop a positive interior dialogue. Don't let self-doubts arise. Make an effort to smash self-doubt when it arises. Listen for negative thoughts in your internal dialogue and overwhelm them with positive self-affirmations.
Step 5
Listen for the negative self-doubts to arise and use your written list of achievements and strengths to defeat the doubt. Erase negative self-talk by thoroughly reminding yourself of your achievements by regularly reviewing the list.
Step 6
Maintain a daily journal, recording all of your positive accomplishments for the sake of reviewing them later. Use the new material in your journal to update your list of strengths and achievements.
Step 7
Sit down, before facing a new challenge, and write a plan to attack the challenges you will face. Write out a list of positive effects that success will have on your life and that of others who will be impacted by your success. Use this list as motivation, to remind yourself of the importance of what you are doing. Recognize the importance of what you do and you will feel more confident about your place in the world.
Step 8
Visualize yourself succeeding in accomplishing all of your goals. Develop a motion picture, in your head, of what the victory celebration will look like. Create as real a mental image as possible and use the positive emotions created by the "experienced" success to fuel your motivation for completing your task.
Step 9
Refuse to quit a task, no matter how difficult. Struggle on, recognizing the value of the success of winning the fight. Develop your intestinal fortitude and will to drive on through challenges, and you will develop confidence in yourself. Recognize that you will never give in to any challenge, even self-doubt.
