How to Treat Body Odor

You may have noticed that people have begun to keep their distance from you in a social setting, and for some reason, your clothes tend to smell a bit odd--all indications of body odor. You may attempt to cover it with deodorant, only to find that it sweats right off. Awkward in both personal and social settings, this is a problem that requires immediate attention. Eliminating body odor is a process, but taking the right steps toward this goal will get you there much faster.

Step 1

Watch your diet closely. Foods that contain a lot of garlic or spices can give your body an unpleasant smell. Cut out foods that your body has a harder time digesting such as red meats, ice cream and pickles. Eat more green leafy vegetables and lean meats and be sure to drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated and cool. Avoid alcohol and caffeine.

Step 2

Bathe often. If bathing once a day isn't making a difference, consider bathing both morning and night and possibly throughout the day if necessary. Use an antibacterial soap and be sure to clean thoroughly under your arms and in other problem areas. Adding three cups of tomato juice to your next bath and soaking for 15 to 20 minutes can help to curb the smell.

Step 3

Wash your clothing after each use and never wear the same clothes without washing them. Avoid tightly fitting clothing and instead opt for clothing that enables air to get through, such as loose-fitting cotton apparel. Add a cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle of the washing machine to help eliminate lingering odors in your clothing to keep them smelling fresh for next time.

Step 4

Wear antiperspirant, or for a more natural remedy, apply baking soda under your arms to absorb odors and moisture. If you are going to be gone all day, bring baking soda with you and apply more whenever necessary.

Step 5

Relax as much as possible. Stressful situations can easily cause you to sweat, which leads to odors. Consider taking up yoga, or take time for yourself each day to free your mind.
