How to Tie Skin Tags

Skin tags, also referred to as acrochordons, are flesh colored growths of skin that hang from the skin by a stalk of tissue. Skin tags are common for people who are overweight and for older adults. The growths are harmless and most often appear on areas of the body that experience friction. Some areas they frequent include the armpits, neck and in skin folds. The skin tags may a source of embarrassment for people so removal is often attempted. There are many home remedies for removing the skin tags. Using the tie off method is one that works well.

Step 1

Consult a physician for any abnormal changes to the skin tag or before treatment.

Step 2

Cut a piece of thread or strip of dental floss. Be sure the length is long enough to go around the stalk of the skin tag and have enough to tie a knot.

Step 3

Wrap the thread around the base of the skin tag. Keep the thread as close to the body as possible.

Step 4

Tie a knot in the thread, closing tight around the stalk of the skin tag.

Step 5

Place a bandage over the skin tag to help it stay securely in place.

Step 6

Allow the thread to remain in place for several days.

Step 7

Observe the skin tag in the following days. The tag will appear darker and eventually fall off.

Step 8

Watch for any signs of bleeding or infection at the site where the tag fell off.
