3 Ways to Do Behind the Head Chest Stretches

1. Warm Up Before the Stretch

The reasons for doing behind the head chest stretches are they improve your flexibility in the area, warm-up your chest and prepare your body before you exercise or perform a sport. For some people, however, doing a behind the head chest stretch while they work at their desk helps them maintain comfortable posture and relieve a stiff neck or tight shoulder blades. If you can, try to warm up the body before your stretch. Even if, you simply jog in place or do jumping jacks, a warm body stretches better than a cold body. You should perform this stretch slowly and without; warming up first helps to ensure the pain free aspect.

2. Stretch at the Desk

While you work at your desk, you sometimes need to take a moment and stretch the chest out to keep from slumping too far into our work space. This is a wonderful stretch to open up your chest and relax the whole chest area, as well as the neck and shoulders. You simply sit up in your chair at your desk and interlace your hands. Reach back and place them in the middle of the neck. You'll notice that the elbows naturally point out as you place your hands behind your neck. Pull the elbows back and feel your chest area open up and stretch. Breathe natural, hold the stretch for 30 seconds and avoid arching the back too much. At best, you need to hold each stretch for 30 seconds and perform the stretch 5 times.

3. Now Move to the Chair

You can perform another nice chest stretch at your desk by getting on your knees in front of your chair. You want to raise your arms above your head and interlock them. You need to balance your body on the knees and bend the upper body forward to rest on the seat of the chair. Slowly drop your head beneath the chair seat and forearms. Breathe out and release the head plus the chest, so they can sink to the floor. You should notice how your chest opens up and stretches while easing pressure off the neck. Hold the stretch for 30 seconds and perform it 5 times.
