When we are born our skin is at its best and our pores cannot be seen by the naked eye, but as we mature our skin produces more oil due to changes in hormone levels. This can result in oily skin and enlarged pores. Treatment for skin that is oily and pores that are enlarged can help control the problem. Treating oily skin and enlarged pores can help you to attain more beautiful-looking skin.
Significance
Skin that is considered oily is prone to breakouts that can lead to acne and other skin problems. Proper treatment of oily skin can keep oil production under control and, therefore, keep the skin free of acne. The right treatment can also make enlarged pores less noticeable.
Prevention/Solution
Have a facial once or twice a month to balance oily skin, and ask your esthetician to deep clean clogged pores. In between facials, wash your face in the morning and evening every day with a facial cleanser designed for oily skin, and use a toner on your skin after cleansing. Apply a moisturizer made for oily skin to your face, and use a clay mask once a week to draw out impurities. Drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water every day.
Considerations
Sometimes oily skin that has developed into acne due to the hormonal changes that occur during puberty may need a more aggressive treatment. Treatment of this kind includes the use of antibiotics, pills or creams prescribed by a doctor. Women who experience breakouts moreso about the time of menstruation may be given birth control pills to treat their acne. Birth control pills help by slowing the pace at which oil glands produce oil. Birth control pills and spironolactone (acne medication) may also be prescribed for treatment of acne breakouts that occur about the time of menstruation. Concerning enlarged pores, treatment of stretched-out pores will result in smaller-looking pores, but they cannot be removed entirely.
Benefits
The benefits of oily skin and enlarged pore treatment are well worth the time and effort. If oily skin is not treated properly and does result in acne, the condition can progress to the formation of cysts. Cysts can be painful, and they can cause scarring. Medical intervention may be necessary if cysts form. Treatment of oily skin and enlarged pores will steer you away from these complications and leave you with well-balanced and lovely looking skin.
Warning
Cleansing the face too many times in one day may make a skin problem worse by drying the skin out. If this happens the sebaceous glands may produce additional oil. Overcleansing may also wash away the acid mantle on the skin, which is responsible for protecting the skin from the penetration of germs.
