How to Get Rid of Stretch Marks with Exercise

Stretch marks are blemishes that appear on the skin's surface as a result of rapid periods of growth. Because of a disruption in collagen production, reddish purple markings appear on the skin's surface. Pregnant women, bodybuilders and adolescents going through puberty are common groups affected by stretch marks. Although stretch marks can appear anywhere on the body, the abdomen, buttocks, thighs and hips are common affected spots. One type of at-home remedy you can try to get rid of stretch marks is exercise.

Step 1

Perform exercises that work the lower body. Because stretch marks typically appear on the lower body, perform strength training exercises that tone this area. When the muscles are tight and toned beneath the stretch marks, they will appear less noticeable.

Step 2

Work the hips and buttocks with leg raises. Lie flat on your side with both legs pressed together. Your toes should point forward as you raise one leg in a slow and controlled motion as far as it will go. Switch legs to work the other side of the body. Perform ten to twenty reps for each leg.

Step 3

Make time to do sets of squats. Squats can firm up your thighs and abs, which may have unsightly stretch marks. To do a squat, stand up straight with your legs shoulder width apart. Thrust your body down while making sure that your knees do not go in front of your toes. Perform three sets of ten to fifteen reps.

Step 4

Strengthen your abs with crunches. Crunches can tighten the abs and fade the appearance of stretch marks. To do a crunch, lie flat on the floor with your knees bent. Put your hands behind your head and lift your shoulders off the floor while tightening your abs. Release the movement and return to the floor. Aim to do two to three sets of twenty to thirty reps.
