Winstrol is an anabolic steroid that is prescribed for several recuperative reasons. It can be used in treatment of people who have experienced severe injuries, illnesses or infection or who need to gain weight. It can also be prescribed as part of breast cancer treatment or for anemia. Patients with hereditary angiodema, a condition that causes swelling in the genitals, bowels, face, throat, legs, arms and other areas, might also benefit from this medication.

Temporary Side Effects

Winstrol may cause initial side effects that will resolve as you use it more. Medical attention generally is not required for these, but call your physician if you are annoyed by them or they persist. These include raised or lowered libido, chills, insomnia, diarrhea, cramps in the muscles and a sensation of fullness in the abdomen. These can occur in women and men who take Winstrol. In men, there also may be temporary side effects that include acne and impotence.

Long-Term Use Side Effects

Using Winstrol for an extended period of time can have additional side effects. These types of rare side effects include vomit that contains blood, tar-like feces or discolored feces, throat soreness, urine discoloration (usually dark), fever and spots in the mouth, nose or on the body that are red or purple. Other long-term use rare side effects include pain in the abdomen, continuing halitosis (bad breath), continual feelings of discomfort, headaches, weight loss that is unexplained and an appetite loss that does not abate.

Serious Side Effects

There are many potential serious side effects associated with Winstrol use. These all require a consultation with your doctor. Serious side effects include skin yellowing, eye yellowing, pain in the bones, abnormal bleeding, vomiting, tongue soreness, leg or foot swelling, nausea and a retardation of bone growth.

Women also may experience oily skin or acne, an abnormal loss of hair, clitoris enlargement, hair growth that is unnatural, menstrual periods that become irregular and voice deepening. They also may become mentally depressed or feel abnormally tired.

Men may experience breast enlargement or soreness, increased need to urinate, and continual or frequent erections. Young boys who take Winstrol might experience unnatural hair growth, acne, penis enlargement, skin darkening and more frequent erections. Older men may have difficulty urinating when taking Winstrol.
