When skin is effected by acne breakouts, it often leaves behind unsightly skin discolorations that can take weeks or even months to diminish. Luckily, there are a few home treatments that can make these discolorations fade more quickly, allowing your skin to return to a naturally balanced complexion.
Non-Comedogenic Oil
Soaking acne scars in a non-comedogenic oil, such as olive oil, will loosen and soften your skin, making it easier for the scar tissue to be removed. Massage 1 Tbsp. of olive oil onto your skin, rubbing it in gently with your fingers. Let your skin soak in the olive oil for five minutes, then place a steaming hot washcloth over the area. The steam will further loosen and soften the skin. After the cloth cools, use it to wipe away the oil. Use oil to loosen and soften dead, scarred skin up to three times per week.
Alkaline Scrub
Scrubbing your skin gently with an alkaline substance, such as baking soda, removes the discolored skin that was softened with olive oil. Baking soda is composed of soft, rounded particulates that are both gentle on your skin and effective in exfoliating scar tissue. To use baking soda on acne scars, mix together 1 Tbsp. of baking soda with 1 tsp. of water, and spread the mixture onto your face. Gently massage the baking soda mixture in using small circular motions. After 1 minute, rinse the mixture off with water. Baking soda can be used to remove discolored scar tissue up to three times per week.
Vitamin C Compress
Vitamin C helps you slough off dead skin and supports the development of new skin. Applying a vitamin C compress after exfoliating your skin helps promote a more evenly toned complexion. Pure, concentrated lemon juice can be used on your skin as a natural vitamin C compress. Soak five cotton pads in concentrated lemon juice, then place the pads onto your skin. Put one your chin, two on your forehead, and one on each cheek. After 10 minutes, remove the pads and let your skin dry. Lemon juice can be used as a vitamin C compress up to three times per week.
