Novel Acne Treatments

According to the University of Michigan Health Center, acne is a skin condition that commonly occurs on the face, neck and back of many teenagers but can also affect young adults as well. Acne causes blackheads, whiteheads and pimples to develop on the skin, which can accumulate and cause infections and skin discolorations that result in poor self-esteem for the sufferer. However, there are some novel acne treatments that can help with this problem.

Supplements

According to the Mayo Clinic there are supplements that can be taken to provide acne treatment. Zinc is a commonly used supplement that has been found to be effective with wound healing. The Mayo Clinic reports that taking an oral zinc supplement can help reduce the inflammation and outbreaks from acne. Also, using zinc-fortified creams can also relieve acne and reduce the number of outbreaks. In addition a supplement called glycolic acid can also be used in the treatment of acne because it helps to remove old, dead skin cells and unclog pores. This allows the pores and skin to be washed effectively and stay cleaner and even helps to reduce the acne outbreaks.

Herbs

The University of Michigan Health System reports that some herbs can be used as a novel acne treatment. For example, the topical application of tea tree oil has been shown in clinical trials to be more effective that using 5% benzoyl peroxide. Also, another herb called burdock has been used to treat skin conditions. According to the University of Michigan Health System burdock has a cleansing effect when taken internally. Another herbal treatment is guggul, which is thought to be comparable to tetracycline, which is a high-powered antibiotic.

Holistic

There are also holistic treatments that many people try as novel acne treatments. According to the University of Michigan Health System, acupuncture can be an excellent acne treatment. Several studies have shown that acupuncture treatments have been very effective with treatment of acne in about 90 to 98 percent of patients.
In addition, cupping is a procedure that applies suction to the areas that need to be treated. Cupping uses a device that is literally shaped like a cup to deliver this suction. Cupping apparently works by removing the toxic waste that collects in our bodies. The suction action pulls blood in the area treatment is needed, allowing it to mix with less-stagnant blood, which relieves the acidity and toxins. No breakage in the skin ever occurs during this process.
