The Best Natural Products for Hair

Jojoba oil and different essential oils are great for keeping hair moisturized, protected and shiny. Jojoba oil is a plant wax that is similar to the sebum produced naturally on the skin and scalp. It has a light sunscreen protection of about SPF 8.
Essential oils are extracted from flowers, plants and herbs. Rosemary (Rosmarlnus officinalis), lavender (L. angustifolia), tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia), and chamomile are all found in shampoos and hair conditioners.
You can also easily make your own shampoo using a liquid Castile soap and add essential oils. Jojoba oil can be applied to clean, dry hair to protect it from overexposure to sun and wind.

Benefits of Essential Oils

Essential oils have been used for thousands of years and many are used in skin and hair care products. Rosemary oil is especially good for helping thinning hair regrow. It is also good for keeping dark hair glossy. Use chamomile if you have blonde hair.
Tea tree oil is good for oily hair as it helps balance oil production. Lavender essential oil is delicate enough to use on infant skin and appropriate for all kinds of hair.
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), many essential oils have antibacterial and antifungal properties including tea tree, lavender and rosemary oils.

Make a Simple Shampoo

Prepare a simple shampoo by adding two ounces of liquid Castile soap and seven to 10 drops of essential oils in a plastic bottle. Add 10 ounces of filtered water and use as needed.
Tea tree oil is good for oily hair; chamomile for fine hair and lavender for all types of hair. Rosemary is often found in shampoos made for dark hair as it helps keep hair from fading or bleaching and developing highlights when exposed to sunlight.

Prepare Jojoba Hair Oil

Jojoba oil is safe enough to use on the skin and in hair. An easy way to use it is a hair oil that is combed through clean and dry hair to keep it thick and protected from heat and wind. In a dark-colored glass jar, combine about four ounces of jojoba oil and 15 to 20 drops of rosemary oil. Shake to blend. To use, pour about two teaspoons into your palm and smooth through hair. Comb it through evenly.
