Many women want long, beautiful hair, but sometimes hair will not grow as fast as desired. Hair fusion is the process that uses Fusion hair extensions, a relatively new product, which make hair appear longer and thicker. Fusion hair extensions are one of the best type of hair extensions because they are natural looking, long lasting and do not damage the hair.

Benefits

The main benefit of Fusion hair extensions is that they make your hair look longer and thicker. Another benefit of Fusion hair extensions is that your natural hair is not damaged during the process. Rhonda Robinson, salon owner of Shear Essence Salon in Jacksonville, Florida, states that women with all types of hair, whether Black, Caucasian or Asian, can get Fusion hair extensions. Fusion hair extensions are also better than many other hair extensions because you can still get your hair dyed or colored with the extensions in.

Process

Robinson states that hair fusion involves taking a group of your natural hair and fusing it together with strands of artificial hair using an adhesive substance. The adhesive substance is clear so that it cannot be seen by looking at your hair, yet it is strong enough to bind the artificial hair to your own hair. Robinson says the process typically takes two and a half hours, though it can take longer depending on how longer your natural hair is, how long you want your hair to be and who performs the hair fusion.

Hot or Cold

According to hairboutique.com, a website that reviews various hair products and treatments, there are two different types of hair fusion: hot and cold. The website says that the original form of fusion hair extensions involves an adhesive that fused the hair strands together with a hot fusion tool. A newer hair fusion method is cold fusion, which involves a keratin formula attached to the root of the natural hair, which merges with the artificial hair without any heated tool. Cold fusion is a gentler treatment that allows more flexibility of the hair, according to hairboutique.com.

Maintenance

Fusion hair extensions generally last three to four months before they have to be reinstalled in the salon, according to hairboutique.com. The more delicately you treat them, the longer they will last. Some salons claim their Fusion hair extensions can last up to six months, though Rhonda Robinson recommends having the extensions removed and reinstalled every three months.

Cost

The cost of Fusion hair extensions varies depending on the length of your natural hair, how long you want the extensions to be and the salon you get them done it. Rhonda Robinson of Shear Essence Salon states that to install one package of Fusion hair extensions costs $125, while installing two packages for a thicker look, cost $250. The thicker you want the extensions, the higher the cost is. Also, in addition to paying for the hairstylist's time putting in the extensions, most salons make you pay for the extensions as well. For instance, at Shear Essence Salon in Jacksonville, 25 strands, which are 17 inches, long cost $75 and 50 strands of extensions the same length cost $150. These prices are per 2010.
