Tone Your Body By Dancing

Program Description
Dance is a potent form of cardiovascular exercise because it requires a lot of movement and motion while burning calories. However, it can also be a surprisingly effective form of toning for the body. For example, although the majority of veteran exercisers turn to crunches or abdominal floor-work to tone their stomachs, dance calls on a wide range of coordination and balance that also targets the core of the body, that is, toning the abdominal and oblique muscles. Dance produces powerful leg, thigh and rear muscles due to the control and movement that many dance steps require.

Actions
1. Try a bellydancing class or tape to tone stomach muscles.
2. Try athletic forms of dance, such as jazz or modern, to enhance lower body tone.
3. Sign up for ballroom dance, which can greatly improve overall posture and carriage of the body.
4. Check out “dance toning” DVDs, with instruction that targets deep muscles, similar to the toning acquired in a ballet class.
5. For effective mobility, wear form-fitting clothing and appropriate shoes to your dance class.
