Features of the First Week
The first three diets of the rotation diet focus on ensuring low-calorie intake. Men must eat no more than 1,200 calories in a day. Women can consume no more than 600 calories per day. The next four days of the diet allow you to increase your calorie intake. Men can consume as much as 1,500 calories per day, while women can have as many as 900 each day.
Features of Week Two Through Four
The second week eases your calorie restrictions even further. Men can consume as much as 1,800 calories, while women are allowed up to 1,200. Week three repeats the first week calorie restrictions. The fourth week is referred to as a “free week” in which dieters can return to their normal eating patterns. Following the four weeks, you can repeat the diet for as long as you wish to stay on the diet.
Effects
The low-calorie intake diets can cause you to feel hunger pains and headaches, which is why the rotation diet encourages you to snack on “safe” foods. These foods have very little calories and include lettuce, asparagus, pineapple, cucumber, spinach, cantaloupe, apples, grapefruit, zucchini and oranges.
Benefits
The rotation diet does not continually restrict your caloric intake. The free week feature is helpful in motivating people to push themselves through more challenging weeks. The rotation diet also permits alcohol and caffeine, which are usually not included in diet plans.
Considerations
A major drawback of the rotation diet is the fact that your body’s metabolism is not affected by the diet. This means your metabolism most likely will not decrease if you stop the diet. The intense calorie restrictions at the beginning of the diet also make it unpleasant for some people. Many people also overindulge during free weeks, which means that weight gain is a possibility during this time.
