How to Cure Painless Mouth Ulcers

Mouth ulcers can be a nuisance for many people. Some never experience mouth ulcers, while others claim to have them very often. Some mouth ulcers cause pain, while others don't; yet all are unattractive. Get checked out by your dentist to rule out a medical condition if you frequently develop mouth ulcers that won't heal. If the verdict is just annoying mouth ulcers, there are a few things that you can try at home to remedy the situation.

Step 1

Place 2 tbsp. of salt in a 5 oz. paper cup. Fill the cup with warm water and then stir until the salt is dissolved completely.

Step 2

Swish the salt water solution in your mouth for 30 seconds and spit out into the sink. Repeat this process three times a day.

Step 3

Put a small amount of peppermint oil on your fingertip and dab it over the top of the mouth ulcer. Use the peppermint oil each time you finish the salt water rinse (for a total of three times per day).

Tips and Warnings

  • Take a daily multivitamin, as a lack of B vitamins can also cause mouth ulcers.
  • Contact your physician if your mouth ulcer is still not healing after three days for further evaluation and treatment options. Avoid spicy foods, as these irritate the oral mucosa and are often the culprit when dealing with mouth ulcers.
