LA Weight Loss, a diet center that was established in 1989, has a website that boasts more than 900 weight loss centers worldwide, so it's easy to see why it is a popular option for individuals looking to shed pounds. While commercials and advertisements show astonishing results, the LA Weight Loss website says little about the actual weight loss process, including exercise and diet aids. It actually is a fairly simple plan with a strict diet and counseling to help you stay on track.

Philosophy

The LA Weight Loss philosophy is stemmed from the proven and popular weight loss concept --- eating less. Those who embark on an LA Weight Loss plan will be instructed to eat less calories and to adhere to a strict portion size percentage rule: 45 percent protein, 35 percent carbohydrates and 15 percent fats on their plate at any given time. This helps to nail down portion sizes and gives your body the ideal amount of each type of food to lose weight.

Phases

The LA Weight Loss diet is planned around three phases, says Health.com. The first is primarily for fast results and weight loss. During phase one, dieters will eat between 1,100 and 1,800 calories per day, depending on their size and weight loss goals. After reaching goal weights, dieters enter the second phase, the stabilization phase. This phase is meant to plateau the weight loss and set dieters up for the third phase, maintenance.

Diet Aids

Diet aids are offered to dieters through the LA Weight Loss program. These diet aids consist mostly of the LA Weight Loss-branded protein bar, dubbed "LA Lites." LA Lites, while not a necessary component of actual weight loss with the system, are highly recommended by the company, and your LA Weight Loss center will offer and sell them to you as part of the program. These LA Lites account for your two daily allotted protein snacks.

Personal Coaching

A pivotal part of the LA Weight Loss diet is coaching with your own, personal diet coach. While some diet plans offer group sessions, you will get to meet one on one with a diet coach who can help you track your weight loss, give you fitness and diet tips for better weight loss, and generally check in with you each week. Those who are motivated by accountability may find the coaching system to be the most effective part of the LA Weight Loss diet.

Expert Insight

Registered dietitian Shannon Crosby notes that the LA Weight Loss diet is a safe plan, as long as the dieter is given enough calories per day to keep him or her healthy and fuel the person properly. She does note that LA Weight Loss workers and counselors make a commission from the sale of protein bars and supplements, which could put prospective dieters on alert when they visit a center.
