EA Sports Active for Nintendo's Wii system gives at-home exercisers some advantages over DVDs to help you get in shape in front of your television. EA Sports Active features software that allows you to tap into a virtual trainer, monitor progress, log food intake and participate in dozens of exercise modes. The hardware accessories include a resistance band and a pocket to house the nunchuck controller while you perform exercises. EA Sports Active also utilizes the Balance Board used in Wii Fit. While there is no specific gender restriction, the exercise selection, marketing and website for Active is aimed at women.
Step 1
Set attainable yet aggressive fitness goals the first time you work out with Active. Continue to log information about the foods you eat and any other physical activities you participate in away from the Wii, to allow the system to track and rate your progress. Stay current with your entries and allow Active to hold you accountable for your efforts and recognize you for your achievements.
Step 2
Take advantage of all the tips and instructions presented by the EA Sports Active virtual trainer, which will guide you through your workouts, offer coaching and feedback, and encourage you to maximize your time and effort.
Step 3
Review the many exercises and activities available for you to participate in when you're working out with Active, and choose those that will target your most critical fitness goals first, such as cardiovascular health, upper body or flexibility. Move on after two to four weeks to add some of your favorite activities for enjoyment, such as dancing or inline skating. Experiment with new alternatives every few weeks to keep your workouts interesting and keep yourself on track.
Step 4
Increase exercise intensity after two to four weeks with the resistance band while doing traditional strength exercises like triceps extensions, bicep curls or chest presses.
Step 5
Monitor your form for technical accuracy, and track your moves for effectiveness with the special leg strap that houses your controller and acts as your hands-on trainer to give you cues and corrections. Work on your form until you master the workouts, then add resistance or speed to your exercises.
Step 6
Participate in the 30-Day Challenge offered by EA Sports Active. Connect with other challengers on the EA Sports Active website to stay motivated by their positive results and to learn new approaches to succeed in beating the challenge.
Step 7
Add variety and new exercise routines to your regime with the supplemental at-home fitness product EA Sports Active More Workouts, which offers 35 additional activities grouped in stations. Warm up and cool down to prevent injuries, begin a regular core workout, and then elevate your total body fitness to an even higher level by taking the 6-Week Challenge, all included in the Active More Workouts product.
