Coconut oil is a natural product used for a variety of purposes, including beauty regimens and cooking. Coconut oil has been used across cultures as an effective and inexpensive method of deep conditioning for the hair. A coconut oil treatment can help turn dry, brittle and damaged hair into healthy, shiny and manageable hair. In addition to strengthening the hair, coconut oil also fights against split ends and helps to prevent breakage from heat and chemically processing.

Wet your hair without shampooing it.

Wring the excess water out of your hair. Blot the hair dry with a towel, leaving it damp but not dripping wet.

Rub 1 or 2 tablespoons of extra virgin coconut oil into the ends of your hair. The amount of coconut oil needed depends on your hair's length, texture and thickness.

Comb the coconut oil through your hair with a wide-tooth comb. The coconut oil treatment needs to be evenly distributed throughout the hair from root to ends.

Rub excess coconut oil into your scalp with your fingertips. If your skin is sensitive, keep the coconut oil on the ends of the hair and avoid getting it onto your scalp.

Cover your hair with a plastic cap. Allow the coconut oil treatment to remain in your hair for at least two hours, or overnight.

Rinse the coconut oil treatment out of your hair. The more oil you applied, the longer it will take to rinse. Make sure to rinse completely.

Shampoo your hair and use a leave-in conditioner or regular conditioner. Style as desired.
