The Equate pregnancy test is a home pregnancy test that is available at Walmart. It is quite sensitive, measuring 25 mIU of hCG, which is the hormone that your body produces when pregnant. One window on the test stick ensures you did the test correctly and the other window displays your results. Approximately 10 days after fertilization, implantation will occur, and your body will begin producing hCG. This hormone is detectable in your blood and urine. Most women will get a positive result on a pregnancy test 14 days after ovulation or on the first day that they miss their period.
Step 1
Urinate into a disposable plastic or paper cup. It is best to use your first morning urine if you are only one or two days late for your period, as it will have a higher concentration of hCG than later, more diluted, urine will.
Step 2
Remove the cap from the pregnancy test stick. Dip the absorbent end of the stick into the cup of urine and wait several seconds until a pink color begins moving through the first window of the test.
Step 3
Remove the test stick from the urine and replace the cap. Lay the test stick, window side up, on a flat surface. Discard the urine and the cup.
Step 4
Wait three minutes, then check the stick. There must be a vertical line in the small square window to show that the pregnancy test worked. The round window will either have a vertical line or a plus sign (check the instructions for the exact test that you purchased) if you are pregnant. If the round window is either empty or has a horizontal line, the test results are negative.
Step 5
Wait an additional five minutes if the results were negative, and then check again. In some cases, it can take up to 10 minutes for a positive result to appear.
Tips and Warnings
- Any positive result that shows up after the 10-minute allotted time frame should be considered an evaporation line, not a positive result. Repeat the test a day or two later to be sure. If a week goes by after a negative result and you still have not gotten your period, take another pregnancy test. If that comes out negative, contact your doctor. If you get a positive result and are pregnant, see your doctor as soon as possible to begin prenatal care.
