Women who love to work out and exercise often like to mix things up a little to keep exercise fun and interesting. Women who work out at home may be challenged to find workouts that offer the best of all forms of exercise, such as strength training, aerobics, step workouts and stretching and toning. The editors of Fitness Magazine recently offered their Top 10 Workout DVDs, which may or may not match your own personal list. Women choosing workout DVDs should try for a blend of cardio, strength and toning for all-around workouts that give more bang for the buck and offer the best results toward weight loss or muscle gain goals.
Poise Fitness - Core Training
Listed as a favorite of the editors of Fitness Magazine, this approximately 45-minute DVD offers a combination of martial arts, dance and Pilates movements that focus on the abdominal muscles. The DVD claims to tone and sculpt, as well as enhance stretching and control of pelvic floor muscles. Presented by Teri Jory, it also focuses on sculpting the arms, legs, hips and thighs.
Jeanette Jenkins: 21 Day Total Body Circuit Workout
This workout claims to burn about 350 calories in about an hour of cardio and strengthening circuits that also require the use of dumbbells for optimal benefits. However, you can still do this workout if you don't have or want to use dumbbells. Circuit training can get the metabolism cooking and keep exercisers sweating, depending on their current condition, and keep heart rate elevated, leading to faster calorie burn.
Jillian Michaels: Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism
Most of us have seen Jillian at work on television's The Biggest Loser, so if you're ready to be motivated, this one's for you. With her drill instructor approach, exercisers who choose this 40-minute video may lose up to 5 lb. a week in this very intense workout that combines old-fashioned calisthenics with high- and low-impact cardio and strength moves.
P90X Extreme Home Workout
Turn on the television and you're bound to see a commercial or pitch for the P90X workout, designed for both men and women looking for one of the most intense, non-boring and effective workouts around. Designed by Tony Horton, the workout is intense and expensive but claims extreme benefits in as little as 90 days. The set of DVDs offers 12 different workouts focusing on muscle growth and calorie burn that are performed in conjunction with a well-balanced nutrition plan. Sessions involve different body muscles and moves every day, keeping the muscles "confused" and preventing the typical weight loss or exercise plateau.
