Cellulite is a very common dermatological complaint that can begin in the teenage years and mostly affects women. Individuals of all sizes and shapes can get cellulite. You do not have to be overweight to be affected by it. "Cellulite" refers to deposits of fat beneath the surface layer of the skin that cause a cottage cheese-like appearance, often around the buttocks, arms, stomach, legs and thighs. There are several things you can do to help improve the appearance of cellulite on your thighs.
Step 1
Use an anti-cellulite lotion to diminish the appearance of cellulite. There are innumerable anti-cellulite lotions to choose from at your local health food store or drugstore. These lotions work by lifting and smoothing the surface of the skin to reduce the appearance of cellulite. These products will only diminish the visibility of the cellulite, not eliminate it. Additionally, they take two to three months to work, and the effects last only as long as the lotion is being used.
Step 2
Consider noninvasive skin-tightening procedures such as unipolar volumetric radiofrequency to diminish cellulite. According to work published Dr. David J. Goldberg from the department of dermatology, Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, unipolar volumetric radiofrequency can produce mild skin tightening of cellulite affecting the thighs. Six or more treatments are usually done before improvements can be seen. Consult your physician or dermatologist for more information about this techinique.
Step 3
Consider mesotherapy. This painless cosmetic procedure involves injecting small amounts of minerals, antioxidants and vitamins under the affected skin to dissolve the cellulite while improving blood circulation and venous and lymphatic drainage. Mesotherapy is a safe procedure when performed by a well-trained physician. It's usually about 10 to 20 sessions before you can see the effects of the therapy. A physician or plastic surgeon will have more information about mesotherapy.
Step 4
Talk to a dermatologist or plastic surgeon about cellulite removal. These specialists can assess your skin and offer you the latest cellulite reduction treatments, which can help recontour the skin on the thighs, making it firmer and smoother and thereby reducing the appearance of cellulite.
