Create a Diabetes/Hypoglycemia Diet For Weight Loss

Program Description
It is important for patients with diabetes or hypoglycemia to monitor their weight and BMI (Body Mass Index). If a diabetic or hypoglycemic is overweight, it is imperative that they implement a diet with healthy foods that can help control blood sugar levels as well as body weight.

Actions
1. Check package labels for sugar or sugar derivatives, and replace with sugar alternatives.
2. Choose natural and fresh foods, and avoid packaged and processed foods whenever possible.
3. Aim to eat foods that would go stale if left out of the refrigerator for a week, such as produce and dairy.
4. Choose vegetables and whole-grain products as carbohydrate sources, like sweet potatoes or broccoli.
5. Eat a wide variety of fresh fruits, unsalted nuts and low-fat dairy.
6. Practice sticking to the appropriate portion size noted for each food.
7. Try not to eat everything on your plate when dining outside your home, and instead leave 1 to 5 bites behind after every meal.
8. Keep healthy sugar-free snacks or shakes with you at all times to keep blood sugar levels and hunger in control.
