Flu B Symptoms

Each year, millions of Americans become ill with the Type B influenza, an infection caused by the influenza Type B virus. Luckily, type B flu infections have milder symptoms than most other strains of the flu. If you feel sick, get plenty of rest, drink a significant amount of fluids and see your physician for diagnosis and treatment. There are a few common symptoms that you may experience if you suffer from Type B flu.

Fever

A common symptom of Type B flu is a fever. A normal body temperature for an adult is 97.6 to 99.6 degrees Fahrenheit. A fever commonly produces chills and hot flashes. It is imperative to drink plenty of fluids, as a fever can dehydrate you quickly.

Headaches

One is like to experience headaches when suffering from Type B flu. Over-the-counter pain medications such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen can help alleviate this discomfort. Speak with your physician or pharmacist to determine if these medications will interact with other drugs and to ensure that they are safe to take with your other medical conditions.

Body Aches

Type B flu can cause body aches. Your muscles and skin may feel sore. Additionally, body aches can result from a fever, so medications taken to relieve fevers and treat headaches will most likely help alleviate body aches as well.

Runny Nose and Cough

Runny nose and cough occur as your body tries to expel the influenza virus from your body. You may experience post-nasal drip along with your runny nose. Speak with your physician or pharmacist about safe over-the-counter or prescription medications to help control these symptoms.

Sore Throat

Sore throat can be experienced as a symptom of Type B flu or additionally as a symptom from coughing and post-nasal drip. Pain relievers and throat lozenges may help alleviate a sore throat.
