When your skin breakouts out in swollen acne pustules, it can be very difficult to not pick and pop them. Popping acne pustules relieves the inflammation, but can cause the skin to have scars and discolored areas. These acne scars are usually more thick and tough than the surrounding skin, which can make it difficult to remove them from your skin. Luckily, acne scars and discolorations can be diminished by loosening the scarred tissues, exfoliating the loosened skin, and applying toner high in vitamin C to help rebuild new skin cells.
Step 1
Loosen scarred tissues by applying a skin-softening oil that will not clog your pores, such as olive oil. Pour 1 tsp. of olive oil into your hands, and gently spread it your skin. Use your fingers to massage the oil in, applying a deeper pressure around the areas that are the most effected by scarring. After 2 minutes, spread an additional tsp. of olive oil onto your skin, and allow it to remain there for at least 5 minutes. During this time, fill a bowl with nearly boiling water. Lean over the bowl, draping a towel over your head. The steam from the water will billow over your face, further softening your skin. After 5 minutes, wipe off the oil with a wet washcloth. Repeat up to three times per week.
Step 2
Remove loosened scar tissues by applying an exfoliating scrub, such as baking soda. Pour 2 tsp. of baking soda into a bowl, a drizzle 1 tsp. of water onto it. Spread the baking soda paste onto your skin, and massage it in gently using your fingertips. Focus on the areas with the most scarring. After 2 minutes, rinse off your skin with warm water. Repeat up to three times per week.
Step 3
Rebuild new skin cells by applying a toner high in vitamin C, which supports the skin in developing new skin cells. When new skin cells replace the old, dead skin cells, it will help your skin become more evenly toned and balanced. Fill an empty spray bottle with 8 ounces of concentrated lemon juice, which is very high in vitamin C, and spray your skin after it has been softened and exfoliated. Let the lemon juice dry onto your skin, and repeat up to five times per day.
