Donate Blood at a Blood Drive

Program Description
Blood truly is the gift of life, but sadly, only 5 percent of healthy donors give blood. In the United States alone, one person needs blood every two seconds: after an accident, to treat cancer or for daily blood transfusions. Donating blood is simple and convenient, especially at sponsored blood drives, and it only takes about an hour. Plus, there will be juice, cookies and smiles at every step of the process.

Actions
1. Locate a blood drive in your area.

2. Register.

3. Get 8 hours of sleep the night before.

4. Eat a healthy, iron-rich breakfast or lunch.

5. Drink extra water before donating.

6. Avoid caffeine.

7. Wear loose clothing.

8. Rehydrate for the next 48 hours after donating.

9. Avoid strenuous activity for the next 5 hours.

10. Call for help if you feel abnormally weak or ill.
