Aspirin Vs. Viagra

Aspirin is a pain reliever used to reduce fevers, pain and inflammation, while Viagra is a medication used to manage impotence (erectile dysfunction, or ED).

Features

According to Drugs.com, aspirin belongs to a group of drugs called salicylates, and works to reduce the substances in your body that lead to pain, fever and inflammation. Viagra is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor that works to promote blood flow to the penis.

Side Effects

Aspirin's common side effects include heartburn, stomach problems, headache and drowsiness, says Drugs.com. Viagra's common side effects include nasal congestion, back pain, memory problems, and flushing of the neck or chest.

Other Uses

Aspirin is also used to prevent a heart attack, stroke or angina (chest pain). Drugs.com says that Viagra is also used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a medical problem in which the major artery in the lungs becomes constricted, preventing adequate blood flow to the lungs.

Overdose

Signs of an aspirin overdose include nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, ringing in the ears, fever, seizures and coma. Manifestations of a Viagra overdose include chest pain, irregular heartbeat, fainting or lightheadedness, says Drugs.com.

Warning

Drugs.com advises not to combine alcohol with aspirin as it can increase your chances of developing gastrointestinal bleeding. Also, avoid combining Viagra with nitrate medications (treats chest pain). A potentially fatal hypotension (low blood pressure) can result.
