Whatever the cause, you can't get rid of cellulite permanently, but that doesn't mean you need to swear off shorts and swimsuits forever. Do-it-yourself treatments help you hide cellulite and give skin a healthy, toned look.
Massage skin with a cellulite-reducing cream that contains caffeine. Rub the cream in vigorously for best results. Caffeine, when applied topically, temporarily tightens and smooths skin. Creams that contain vitamin C and gingko may also help boost circulation. The firming effect isn't permanent; it usually lasts for about eight hours. You'll need to reapply the cream after showering.
Mix your used coffee grounds with a spoonful of olive oil, then leave the mixture in the refrigerator until cold. In the shower, rub the coffee grounds into cellulite for up to 15 minutes. Leave the mixture on for 30 minutes, then rinse off.
Shower as usual, then pat yourself dry with a towel. Rub a dollop of moisturizer into your skin while it's still somewhat damp. Smooth a small amount of self-tanner lotion over areas with cellulite. Tone your upper thighs by doing squats. This exercise strengthens muscles and makes cellulite less noticeable. To do squats, stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart. Bend your knees as if you were sitting down, then hold the position for two seconds. Stand back up, then squat down again. Repeat this 15 times for three days per week.
Use a body brush to gently brush dimpled skin with circular, upward motions before getting into the shower. After you get used to the sensation, brush the skin with long, smooth strokes. Do not brush the chest area; that skin is too delicate. When you're done brushing, shower as usual, then apply a moisturizer to damp skin.
