All Types of Braces

Wearing braces is a rite of passage for many teenagers, and in recent years many adults have decided to straighten their teeth, too. Braces are worn to correct many orthodontic problems, including crooked or crowded teeth, under-bite or overbite. Both teenagers and adults have an extensive array of braces to choose from that will meet the needs of even the most esthetically conscious patient. Braces differ in price and the time taken to produce results.

Frontal Fixed Braces

Metal braces are attached to the teeth with an "arch wire" held in place by metal brackets, so they are often referred to as "train track" braces. Brackets and arch wire made out of stainless steel or silver are most common. Ceramic or clear brackets are a popular choice as they are much less visible, for a more natural appearance. They are more expensive than metal braces. Braces with gold brackets are often chosen by people who want to make a statement or by the fashion conscious.

FastBraces

The patented FastBraces, invented by Dr. Anthony Viazias, have reduced treatment time to approximately one year, which in turn has reduced the cost of treatment. They have triangular brackets, and require the application of only one wire for the entire mouth throughout the course of the treatment. FastBraces produce results faster because they move both the root and crown of the tooth at the same time. Traditional braces concentrate on the movement of the crown in the first year and the movement of the root during the second year.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are esthetically more pleasing because they are placed on the back side of teeth and therefore are hardly visible. Lingual braces are customized for each individual, so they are expensive. Adaptation to lingual braces can take up to two weeks and your speech will be affected at first.

STb Social 6 Braces

STb Social 6 Braces are like traditional lingual braces but differ in comfort and treatment time. They have smaller brackets and high-tech wires that reduce friction, which makes them more comfortable. Treatment lasts from six to 16 weeks.

Inman Aligners

The Inman Aligner is considered an alternative to Invisalign braces. It is also invisible, but only one clear specialized plastic aligner is worn over the teeth throughout the course of treatment. It produces results quickly due to the tiny nickel titanium coils that provide constant tension to the aligner. It isn't suitable for everyone because it is primarily used to treat the front teeth.

Invisalign Braces

The Invisalign system straightens teeth by using a set of custom plastic aligners that are almost undetectable. The aligners are made from a clear material designed to fit over your teeth and work by moving your teeth a little at a time. Treatment typically lasts between nine and 15 months. The aligners are changed every two weeks or so, as your teeth move to their correct position. They are both removable and comfortable.
