As the Baby Boomers move through middle age and beyond, they are fighting the effects on the skin every step of the way. The allure of golden tans from their teens and twenties has faded, and now they're on a quest to pursue smooth skin that belies their age. Their children and grandchildren have the advantage of learning from the Baby Boomers' mistakes as companies crank out anti-aging products by the ton. Do-it-yourselfers are jumping on the bandwagon and making their own products that in some cases are as effective.
Cucumber Cream Mask
In a blender, mix 4 tbsp. chopped cucumber, 1 tbsp. lemon juice, 1 tbsp. sodium benzoate and 1 egg. Blend the ingredients until the mixture is creamy and smooth. Apply it to your face and smooth it over the face and neck in a circular motion. Lie down and close your eyes for approximately 30 minutes so the mixture can do its work. Rinse well and pat your face dry. The leftover mixture can be refrigerated in a sealed container.
Peaches and Cream
Blend 1 fresh, sliced peach with 2 tbsp. heavy cream and 2 tbsp. plain, full-fat yogurt until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Apply to your face and relax for approximately 30 minutes. Rinse well.
Mediterranean Moisturizing Facial Cream
Whip an egg yolk with 1 tsp. extra virgin olive oil, 1 tsp. fresh lemon juice and 1 tsp. plain, full-fat yogurt. Apply it to your face and neck. Relax for approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse with water. Application of the Mediterranean moisturizing facial cream may be repeated daily.
Nighttime Facial Moisturizer
Add 10 oz. almond oil and 1 oz. beeswax to a saucepan or double boiler. Stir while heating the mixture on medium. Slowly add 8 oz. rosewater, stirring vigorously. As soon as the mixture begins to boil, remove from the heat and stir until it is creamy. Allow it to cool before pouring it into a clean bottle. This all-natural formula may be used as a gentle makeup remover, then reapplied to the face for an all-night moisturizer.
Daytime Facial Moisturizer
Heat 1 oz. beeswax and 1/2 tsp. lanolin until very warm but not boiling. Remove from heat. Slowly stir in 3 oz. almond oil. Add 1 tsp. zinc oxide and 2 more oz. almond oil, whipping as you go. In a separate container, mix 1/2 tsp. borax with 2 oz. rosewater. Add the borax mixture to the almond oil mixture. Beat this mixture until it is smooth. Store the creamy mixture in clean jars. To use this moisturizer, apply a quarter-size dollop to the face, neck and under-eye area. Gently massage this into the face before applying makeup.
