Acid reflux or heartburn is a common ailment afflicting almost everyone from time to time. It happens if you overeat or eat foods that make your stomach rebel. The foods disturb the digestive process and cause food and digestive juices--consisting primarily of acid--to back up into the esophagus, causing burning pain, bad breath, sore throat and a host of other unpleasant and possibly dangerous symptoms. Aside from using antacids, vinegar may help stimulate digestive juices and neutralize acids to reduce heartburn symptoms, according to Dr. Theodore A. Baroody, in his book, "Alkalize or Die."
Step 1
Add white vinegar to taste in your food during cooking.
Step 2
Add 2 tsp. of white vinegar to salad dressings or sprinkle it on salads or cold vegetables with an equal portion of olive oil.
Step 3
Make cold bean salad with a mixture of white and wine vinegar for relief of heartburn. Cook and drain 2 cups of mixed legumes. Cool them and add 1 to 2 tbsp. of white vinegar to any homemade or commercial vinaigrette dressing to help reduce the recurrence of acid reflux. Pour the dressing over the bean salad and allow to marinate in the refrigerator for several hours before eating.
Step 4
Mix 1 to 2 tbsp. vinegar in a glass of water and drink, when necessary, to relieve symptoms of acid reflux. Sip, don't chug. Mix the white vinegar half and half with apple cider vinegar for a more flavorful drink. Sweeten with honey, if needed.
Step 5
Make pickles with your favorite vegetables by adding pickling spice and vinegar to the jar. Eat the pickles daily to help relieve heartburn.
Step 6
Mix 1 tbsp. of white vinegar, with 1 tbsp. apple cider vinegar and 1 tbsp. raw honey. Take a mouthful if you have heartburn symptoms. It's very soothing. The vinegar cure helps alter the pH contributing to an alkaline-forming state in the stomach, neutralizing acids, according to Earth Clinic.
