The Best Way to Get Rid of Dark Circles Under the Eyes

Dark circles under the eyes can be caused by exhaustion, malnutrition, allergies and heredity, and can cause your complexion to appear more sallow and more tired than you actually feel. Dark circles can make your face appear more aged than it actually is. Taking measures to reduce and eliminate dark under-eye circles can prevent you from looking older than your age. These measures include applying substances to the eye area that will reduce inflammation, shrink capillaries and deliver a vitamin that will diminish the appearance of darkness.

Step 1

Apply cucumber slices under your eyes, which will reduce irritation and inflammation on your skin. Refrigerate a cucumber for at least an hour, then cut two slices around 1/8 inch in thickness each. Place a cucumber slice on top of each eye while keeping your eyes closed and looking upward. Allow the cucumber slices to remain on your eyes for at least 10 minutes, then remove them to allow the eyes to air-dry. Apply cucumbers to the eyes once per day in the morning.

Step 2

Apply black teabags to decrease the size of capillaries in the skin under your eyes. Soak two black teabags in cold water, and squeeze out the excess water with your fingers. Close your eyes and look upward, exposing the area under the eyes that is most effected by dark circles. Place a black teabag under each eye, and allow it to rest there for at least 10 minutes. After the allotted time has passed, remove the teabags and rinse off the area with water. Pat the skin dry with a soft towel. Apply black teabags to your eyes once per day in the morning.

Step 3

Apply an eye cream that contains vitamin K under your eyes, which reduces the appearance of darkness around the area by increasing collagen production under your skin. You can find a vitamin K eye cream at a natural foods store or through an online merchant. Squeeze a pea-size amount of vitamin K eye cream onto your fingertips, and gently smooth the eye cream onto the skin around your eyes. Gently massage it in using a very light touch until it has been absorbed into your skin. Apply a vitamin K eye cream twice per day.
