How to Treat Scars

Treatments for scar removal are available from a variety of skin care sources and vary in their efficacy. The creams and ointments are touted to be able to reduce and remove scars, soften skin, lighten the color and make scars less noticeable overall. Whether the treatment is a natural product or a more conventional over-the-counter cream, it's best to try them, checking first that you have no allergies to the ingredients.

Step 1

Use essential oils to treat scars. A variety of oils have been shown to be helpful such as lavender, everlasting, mandarin, neroli, tangerine and sandalwood.

Step 2

Perform a skin test before you use any essential oils to make sure you are not allergic to them. Combine one or two drops of the oil in 1/2 tsp. of the base oil you will use. Place on an inconspicuous place, like your inner arm or thigh, cover with gauze, and wait 24 hours to see if you react. If one product or method doesn't give you the results you are looking for, use one of the other products suggested, but do not combine all three at the same time.

Step 3

Put 25 to 30 drops of the essential oil, the vitamin E oil, the wheat germ oil and rose hip seed oil into a small container, mixing gently until all are combined. Apply to the scar to encourage new tissue to form. Do not apply to open wounds until scar tissue has formed to fully close them.

Step 4

Use homeopathic thiosinaminum ointment for scar removal, available from Washington Homeopathic Products online and may be purchased in a glycerin or petroleum base. This ointment works well to remove old and new scars.

Step 5

Apply a small amount of thiosinaminum ointment to the scar twice daily and rub in. Since it may be greasy looking, using it at night and at other times when you won't be going out is best. It is also useful for removing deep keloid scars, explains Mothernature.com

Step 6

Try Wound-Be-gone Hydrophilic Scar Gel for healing scars. This product advertises that it is able to prevent scars from forming by removing free radicals from the wound site and maintaining a constant temperature around the wound. This supposedly promotes faster healing. After it's been applied it dries to an elastic-like layer that protects the wound from contamination.
