The OptiClik insulin pen system delivers a scheduled dose of insulin. The reusable pen uses a cartridge of Lantus or Apidra insulin and is only available with a prescription from a physician. The pen doses one to 80 units of insulin in each injection. The dosage amount adjusts easily with the turn of a dial. The pen treats individuals with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, who require an injection once daily to help control their disease. The pen is easy to load with new cartridges, for safe and effective subcutaneous injections. Following loading instructions is important, in order to be sure the pen delivers the correct amount of insulin.

Step 1

Hold the OptiClik insulin pen horizontally, in one hand.

Step 2

Completely press in the dosage knob, located at the end of the pen.

Step 3

Rotate the pen until the cartridge release button is visible.

Step 4

Check to be sure that the insulin vial is the correct one, before inserting into the pen. Also, check to be sure that the insulin is clear and not cloudy.

Step 5

Slide the insulin cartridge into the opening of the pen. If resistance is met, lift the end and turn the cartridge to lock it into place in the pen. Be gentle when inserting the cartridge. Forcefully inserting the cartridge may damage it.

Step 6

Listen for a click, to be certain the cartridge correctly engaged.

Step 7

Attempt to pull the cartridge out of the pen. The cartridge should remain securely in place. The OptiClik insulin pen is now loaded.

Step 8

Store the insulin pen at room temperature.
