Ferrex 150 Side Effects

Ferrex 150 is a brand name for an iron supplement. It's used to help your body produce enough red blood cells to make you healthy. Although iron generally is ingested with food, it may need to be supplemented for people with iron deficiencies, such as those with conditions such as bleeding problems, stomach ailments, diseases of the intestines, burns and stomach removal.

Serious Side Effects

There are many potential serious side effects from Ferrex 150. Talk with a medical professional as soon as you are able to if you experience any of them. The more common serious side effects, according to the Mayo Clinic, include breathing trouble; pain in the back, side or groin; throat or mouth swelling; chest pain; skin rash; chills; hives; dizziness; skin redness; fainting and tachycardia, or an increased heartbeat. Others include continual cramps or soreness; abdominal pain; sweating with a fever; tingling or numbness; headaches; a metallic taste in the mouth, and vomiting or nausea. Rare or less common serious side effects may include feces that contain blood; diplopia or double vision; pain when swallowing, and an overall feeling of illness and bodily weakness but without faint or dizzy sensations.

Temporary Side Effects

More common side effects may include vomiting, constipation, nausea, diarrhea and cramps in the legs. Less common temporary side effects may include teeth staining; discoloration of the urine, usually dark; and heartburn. All of these should go away the more you use Ferrex 150. Tell your doctor if they don't.

Overdose Side Effects

If you take too much of the supplement, seek emergency medical treatment. The first signs of overdose side effects include severe vomiting that possibly contains blood; diarrhea that also contains blood; sharp cramps or stomach pain; fever, and nausea. The Mayo Clinic reports that some overdose side effects don't manifest for an hour or more. If you see signs of the early overdose side effects, get to an emergency room without delay. The later side effects from an overdose of Ferrex 150 may include a rapid heartbeat that is weak; a blue color in the palms, fingernails and lips; abnormal weakness or tiredness; convulsions; rapid and shallow breathing, and skin that is clammy and pale.
