A variety of techniques may work when a man suffers from premature ejaculation. There are methods the man may use by himself or with the help of his partner. There are also therapeutic remedies and drugs that can help.

Mental Relaxation

Simple relaxation methods may help, according to the National Institutes of Health. A man can think non-sexual thoughts during sex to avoid overexcitement and delay orgasm. This is an old method that may involve thinking of baseball or other events to temporarily step away mentally from the act itself.

Squeeze Method

A squeeze technique involves compressing the penis. During foreplay, the partner pauses and squeezes the penis below the head where it joins the shaft, maintaining the squeeze for several seconds. Foreplay then continues. The squeeze technique is used again when the man is about to ejaculate. Repeating this process may help delay ejaculation when intercourse begins. The process may no longer be needed after a few practice sessions. The man may learn how to delay ejaculation.

Stopping Method

In a similar method, the partner stimulates the man until he is about to reach orgasm, then stops before he reaches the point. This is done repeatedly until the man gets use to delaying ejaculation.

Self Pleasure

Masturbating an hour or two before having sex with a partner may help in delaying excitement and ejaculation when the couple is performing. This has been recommended by some sex therapists, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Creams

Some topical creams contain medication to dull the sensation of the penis. The user can wipe off the cream when he feels his penis has lost enough sensation to help prevent premature ejaculation. Some women complain that the creams dull their vaginal sensitivity. Some people may have allergic reactions.

Medication

Antidepressants may be used to delay climax, because the drugs have erectile side effects for some men. A man may take low doses of the antidepressant a few hours before sex with his partner to help delay climate. His sexual difficulties may improve in time.

Desensitizing Condoms

Some condoms have an anesthetic on the inside. This can slightly reduce the sensation for the man, while not affecting the woman. This may help in longer-lasting sexual performance by the man. Some people may have an allergic reaction to the medication.

Counseling

Premature ejaculation may be the result of performance anxiety. This problem can be overcome through therapy or counseling. The man discusses his sexual experiences and tries to understand the reasons for his anxiety, which can eventually solve the problem.
