When oily hair becomes a nuisance, it may be time to modify your hair routine. Combining natural ingredients with high-quality hair care products may be the best way to tackle the unwanted greasiness without removing that healthy shine.
Shampoo, Condition and Rinse
Step 1
Create a natural oil-fighting shampoo by combining 2 tso. of pure aloe vera gel and 1 tbsp. of lemon juice and setting it aside. Mix these ingredients into your favorite shampoo, such as Rosemary Mint by Aveda. Wash the scalp thoroughly with this solution and rinse out with cool water.
Step 2
Apply the Aveda rosemary mint conditioner to the hair. Comb the conditioner through the hair if desired. Rinse the hair with cool water.
Step 3
Combine 1 cup of water, 1 cup of apple cider vinegar and one handful of fresh mint leaves in a pot on the stove. Bring to a boil. Strain and pour into a container. After the solution has cooled, pour it onto the scalp. Massage the solution into the scalp and do not rinse out the hair.
Tips and Warnings
- Try washing your hair every other day. As shampooing strips the natural oils of the hair, the scalp may try to compensate by producing more oil. Apply conditioner only to the ends of the hair if persistent oily hair is a problem. Avoid using hot water on oily hair as this may aggravate the problem. Avoid fatty and oily foods. Increase the amounts of healthy protein in the diet as well as the intake of fruits and vegetables. Keep the hair pulled off of the face when exercising and working.
