Gatorade is a brand of sports drinks made by PepsiCo. Gatorade drinks primarily are intended to replace electrolytes and carbohydrates during vigorous exercise. Gatorade 2 (G2) is a low-calorie alternative to regular Gatorade and is available in a variety of fruit flavors. The nutritional value of G2 comes mostly from simple sugars.
Preparation
G2 consists mainly of high fructose corn syrup and water. It also contains electrolytes such as citric acid, salt, sodium citrate and monopotassium phosphate. Flavorings and colorings also are added to G2 to provide fruit flavors such as blueberry-pomegranate, fruit punch, grape, lemon-lime, orange and strawberry-kiwi. The nutritional information for Gatorade G2 is based on a 20 oz. bottle and applies to all flavors of G2.
Calories
A serving of Gatorade G2 contains 68 calories. Carbohydrates in the form of high fructose corn syrup account for all 68 calories. This provides 3.4 percent of the total daily value (DV) for calories based on a diet of 2,000 calories per day.
Carbohydrates
A serving of Gatorade G2 contains about 17 g of simple carbohydrates. One gram of simple carbohydrates contains 4 calories, so a serving of Gatorade G2 contains 17 x 4 = 68 calories.
Fats and Proteins
A serving of Gatorade G2 contains no significant amount of fats or proteins. G2 also has no fatty acids, triglycerides or amino acids.
Vitamins and Minerals
A serving of Gatorade G2 contains 270 mg of sodium, which is about 11.7 percent of the recommended daily value (DV) of 2,300 mg for sodium. It contains 75 mg of potassium, or about 2.1 percent of the DV for potassium. G2 also contains 15 percent of the DV for vitamin C.
