Eat Low Sodium Foods to Reduce Hypertension

Program Description
Normal blood pressure is essential for healthy blood circulation. It is important to know your blood pressure and keep it under control because high blood pressure usually has no symptoms. Although you can't control your age, race or heredity, you can improve hypertension if you lose weight, eat less salt, drink less alcohol, do exercise and learn regular stress management techniques.

Actions

1. Increase your consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables.

2. Buy foods labeled "reduced sodium," "low in sodium," "sodium free" or "no salt added."

3. Choose fewer canned and processed foods like sausage, deli meats, cheese and bacon.

4. Take the salt shaker off the dinner table and add herbs and spices to your meals instead.

5. Use less bouillon cubes, soy sauce and ketchup.

6. Add low-fat calcium-rich foods to your diet.
